As of May 2009, (NICE Article CG88), chiropractic spinal manipulation and / or acupuncture can be recommended treatments for patients with mechanical lower back pain of duration 6 weeks to 1 years duration, (www.nice.org.uk/CG88—full guideline). GP’s are now advised to refer patients with such conditions to chiropractors, physiotherapists or osteopaths.
